2-Alarm Fire Damages Warehouse Today In Nearby Kearny Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA -- A two-alarm fire ripped through a Kearny Mesa warehouse today, causing extensive damage and prompting evacuations but resulting in no reported injuries.

The blaze in the 8200 block of Ronson Road erupted for unknown reasons shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames pouring out of the structure, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said. By then, workers had safely gotten out of the burning building and nearby commercial spaces.

It took firefighters about a half-hour to extinguish the blaze.

A hazardous-materials team was called in to check the area for toxic substances that may have been released by the heat and combustion, Swanson said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
