3. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to support a congressional bill aimed at prohibiting new offshore oil drilling in Southern California. The American Coasts and Oceans Protection Act, written by U.S. Rep. Mike Levin, D-Dana Point, came about following the Oct. 1 oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach. (City News Service)
4. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the development of an ordinance, based on a United Nations treaty, to eliminate discrimination against women. As proposed by board Chairman Nathan Fletcher and Supervisor Nora Vargas, the county would follow the United Nations' Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, first adopted in 1979.
