• Poway Community Foundation needs more donations to provide nonprofit grants (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Poway residents are being asked to step up with donations so the volunteer-run Poway Community Foundation can fully fund a record number of local nonprofit grant requests. After raising over $45,000 at its Brews and Boots event in Old Poway Park, the foundation still needs more community support to back programs serving Poway seniors, veterans, families, and people with special needs.
   

• California police hunt sexually violent predator Merle Wakefield who vanished after GPS 'tamper mode' alert (amedpost.com) — San Diego County authorities are searching for convicted sex offender Merle Wakefield, who removed his GPS monitor and disappeared from a Rancho Bernardo worksite, renewing concerns about how such offenders are supervised. Poway previously fought a proposal to house Wakefield near a local school and park, with Mayor Steve Vaus and residents opposing the plan and questioning the state's release policies.
