Baby Dies in Scripps Ranch Home

SAN DIEGO, CA — An infant was found dead of unknown causes Thursday at a Scripps Ranch home, authorities reported.

A distraught woman made a 911 call shortly before 9:30 a.m. to report a non-breathing 5-month-old at the residence in the 9700 block of Caminito Doha, according to San Diego police. Medics pronounced the baby, whose name was withheld pending family notification, dead at the scene a short time later.

Child-abuse detectives were summoned to investigate, as is standard protocol in all unexplained deaths of minors, Officer Joshua Hodge said.

The county Medical Examiner's Office will rule on the baby's cause of death.
