Boys Volleyball Playoffs: Poway Sweeps Grossmont

The third-seeded Poway High boys volleyball team advanced to the San Diego Section Division I semifinals with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-12 victory over Grossmont High in the Titans gym Friday night.

Josh Lake and Jack Hughson had seven kills each for the Titans, who improved to 20-14. Scott Miller had 27 assists and Dillon Wegrzyn 15 digs for Poway. Grossmont ended the season 23-6.

The Titans will travel to Otay Ranch High on Tuesday to face the second-seeded Mustangs (28-7) in a 7 p.m. match. Otay Ranch topped Mission Hills 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 to advance to the semis.

Division I

No. 1 seed Carlsbad defeated San Pasqual 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-16)

No. 2 seed Otay Ranch defeated Mission Hills 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20)

No. 3 Poway defeated Grossmont 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-12)

No. 4 Torrey Pines defeated Rancho Bernardo 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-12)

Poway (3) at Otay Ranch (2), 7 p.m.

Division III

No. 1 Cathderal Catholic defeated Monte Vista 3-0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-16)

No. 2 Ramona defeated Montgomery 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14)

No. 3 La Jolla defeated Olympian 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-10)

Canyon Crest defeated No. 4 Mar Vista 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-14)
