Summer Weight Loss Tips

Make this summer a stepping stone to a new you with four tips to help you on your transformation path by focusing your mental and emotional energies.

This summer does not have to be just another summer. To make this summer a stepping stone to a new you, you need a process, a transformation path to focus your mental and emotional energies. Below are four tips to get you started.

1- Productive self-image – It is harder to a positive self-image. It is much easier to focus on a productive self-image which is the image of yourself that helps you get what you want.

A simple way to do this is to start a directed inner dialogue with yourself. Ask yourself something like, “Hey Sally (that is you for now), what qualities do you have now that you are 50 pounds lighter than you did not have when you were 50 pounds heavier?” Or, “What would a Sally that is 50 pounds lighter do in this situation?”

This simple process allows you to see what qualities and activities are productive to you, and you can start working on them. The key here is to learn to trust yourself and rely on your inner resources.

2- Think from the end – Every client I have ever had thought about starting things. They rarely thought about finishing things and the almost never thought about the steps beyond the completion of their goal.

In a typical orientation session, I ask my new clients what they want to do and their responses often begin, “I want to lose weight, and I want to start …”

I ask them, how long they have been trying to lose weight, and their response is  years and many times decades.

Then I ask them, “Suppose you lost all the weight and got the body you always wanted. What would that do for you?”

This is where they look at me like I have lost my mind. In that instant, I see all the struggles, the frustrations and the deep doubt.

Your mind, for the most part, cannot separate a physical experience from the real one. Imagining an experience can be as powerful as the experience. So I ask my clients what I am asking you to do. Spend a few minutes a day and see yourself beyond the point of having accomplished your goal.

Then write your goals down from that point of view. Instead of I’ll be there, say I am here. Instead of this is my plan to get there, say this is the path I traveled to get here. This process allows you to begin to identify and harmonize with your goal more and more and with your present condition less and less.

You experience the things you identify with and are in harmony with.

3- Unbound Love - From a spiritual master I learned a powerful lesson. That lesson is to fill the image of your fulfilled goal with unbound love. In almost every weight loss client I have seen they needed to increase the amount of love they had for themselves and their goals. Something blocked their ability to find themselves worthy of self-respect and self-love. Spiritual masters say that unbound love removes all limitations. So fill your image of change with unbound love.

4- Crystallize Goals - Write down your goal and a plan and take steps to follow the plan.

Did you know that a research study over a ten-year period showed that those with specific written goals and a plan to accomplish them received ten times better results than those who didn’t?

Written goals are not the end of your journey, but they are a necessary and strong start. In another article, we’ll cover the art and the science of goal setting.
