Brush Fire Along I-15 Near Poway Closes Ramp, Lanes

BREAKING: The fire broke out about 12:45 p.m. Monday just south of Poway Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

POWAY, CA -- Firefighters have extinguished a brush fire that broke out Monday afternoon alongside northbound Interstate 15, just south of Poway Road in Sabre Springs, according to reports.

The fire was reported about 12:45 p.m. and for a time, forced the closure of the northbound offramp to Poway Road, as well as at least two lanes of northbound I-15, according to CHP's incident log.

A SigAlert was issued about 1:15 p.m. and authorities opened the northbound Express lanes to all traffic from the I-15/I-163 merge to the I-15/state Route 56 junction.

Fortunately, crews held the blaze to about one acre, NBC7 reported.

Just after 2:30 p.m., CHP reported that use of the Express lanes for all traffic had since been deactivated and normal operations had resumed.
