Case of Man Accused of Threatening Classmates Under Review

No charges were yet filed against a man suspected of threatening to shoot and kill fellow students at the Poway Adult School.

No charges were filed today against a 20-year-old man accused of threatening to shoot and kill fellow students at the Poway Adult School earlier this month.

Jonathan Juarez was arrested Oct. 22 on suspicion of making criminal threats. He bailed out of jail and was ordered to return to court today, but the case remains under review, said Tanya Sierra of the District Attorney's Office.

Staff from the Poway Adult School reported to the sheriff's department that on Oct. 17, Juarez made a motion with his hand as if he was shooting a handgun as he made statements that he wanted to kill students at the Twin Peaks Road school, according to sheriff's Deputy Matthew Carpenter.

Carpenter said students and staff were fearful that Juarez would carry out his alleged threats and cause harm to others.

The deputy said a subsequent investigation led to Juarez's arrest and a search of his home, but no weapons were found in the residence.
