Prominent Artists to Showcase Work at POW!
The Poway Center for the Performing Arts is the center of all things art this week.

The , aka POW!, is hosting a unique display of art from Grace Chow and Mr. & Mrs. Chow Chian Chiu, now through Nov. 26.
Chow Chian Chiu (1910-2006) and Chow Leung Chen Ying (1921-2005) were prominent members of the Lingnan School of Painting and widely recognized for their lifelong devotion to art and their teaching of Chinese art to students worldwide. They are widely admired for their renderings of landscapes, birds, flowers and animals, as well as their calligraphy.
Chow Chian Chiu, with a background in classical poetry and literature, heartened members of the Chinese armed forces during the Sino-Japanese War with paintings of a tiger, earning the nickname Tiger Chow. Chow Leung Chen Ying gained a reputation for her lively and fluid flower paintings, later receiving the sobriquet of Hibiscus Leung. The couple married in 1944 and travelled throughout China, holding exhibitions and painting together.

In 1949, the couple founded the International Studio of Chinese Art and taught thousands of students the art of Chinese painting. Later, the couple authored “Easy Ways to Do Chinese Painting,” and a subsequent “Chinese Painting #2.” Together, the two volumes sold more than 2 million copies worldwide.
The Chows then conducted exhibitions around the world, from England to Yugoslavia. The couple moved to the United States in 1968 and gave lectures and held exhibitions at more than 20 universities. During their retirement they authored “A Comprehensive Guide to Doing Chinese Painting.”

Grace Chow, born in China and raised in Hong Kong, began taking private lessons in Chinese brush painting at age 12. She has exhibited both her Western watercolors/mixed media works and Chinese brush paintings on numerous occasions, including many throughout San Diego.

Gallery hours for viewing are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
