Ground Breaks On New Mixed-Use Development In Downtown Poway
The $35 million development called Outpost will include 53 residential units, an urban food hall and a 20,000-square-foot fitness center.
POWAY, CA – Local real estate developer Capexco broke ground Monday on a $35 million mixed-use development in downtown Poway.
The new development, called Outpost, is located on a 1.58-acre parcel of land and is expected to include 53 residential units, an urban food hall and a 20,000-square-foot fitness center by Crunch Fitness. The urban food hall will have up to 15 artisan food concepts from around San Diego.
Outpost is the first development under the updated Poway Road Specific Plan, which the Poway City Council approved in December 2017. The council approved the Outpost project in March.

Trent Claughton, president and CEO of Poway-based Capexco, said the project was named Outpost because he sees Poway as a destination for all of San Diego County.
"Outpost marks an important milestone in Poway's history that we hope will become a model for revitalization and creating a walkable downtown district for Poway," Claughton said. "It brings needed housing and compelling new food and fitness concepts to Poway in a vibrant live, play and work mixed-use development."

The project will encompass three buildings encircling a central paseo, Claughton said.
There will be 40,000 square feet of commercial space and 57,840 square feet of residential space, including 43 apartments, four townhomes, four live-work units and two lofts. It will feature a pedestrian paseo between the two- and three-story buildings with outdoor seating, an upstairs patio above the food hall and 329 parking spaces, with all but four spaces underground.
Poway Mayor Steve Vaus, who spoke at the groundbreaking, said that the city has long dreamed of creating a town center.
"This project will be a catalyst for achieving that goal," he said. "Outpost will offer new places to live, work and play while helping fuel the city's economy."
The project is expected to be completed by fall 2019.
