New Emergency Readiness Concepts to be Presented at Poway Meeting

Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps to Feature Speaker Addressing Outdated Readiness Strategies

Learn about recent changes in developing “shelter in place” safe havens in your homes and what you need to do to increase your odds of surviving an emergency. This presentation, sponsored by the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps (PNEC),will be 7 pm, March 5, at 14211 Twin Peaks Road.

Living in a community with a history of fires, earthquakes and other acts of nature requires a certain amount of vigilance. Add to that the potential for large scale industrial accidents, the possibility of civil unrest, potential acts by terrorist groups, etc., and it is easy to grasp the importance of emergency readiness plans for our homes and our city. However, according to guest speaker Adam Cabacungan, vice president of operations at bereadyinc.com,many of our plans are outmoded and need adjustments. He said he will speak on new views regarding shelter in place strategies, changes in how water is to be saved and stored, as well as the development of a “hunker down” plan that encompasses the entire house and an “on the move” plan that details evacuation plans.

PNEC is a non-profit community group that seeks to complement and strengthen the City of Poway Emergency Operations Plan through a grass roots network of neighbors. More information about PNEC can be found at http://powaynec.com/.
