Poway Boutique to Close Its Doors

Owner Liz McNamara says she's moving on to other career opportunities.

After four years of operating in Old Poway Village, will soon close its doors.

But the boutique, which sells clothing and home decor, isn't a victim of the recession or lack of sales, said owner and Poway native Liz McNamara.

After about a month of contemplation, McNamara, 29, said she chose to close the store to explore other options.

"I have bigger job opportunities that I'm going to take," she said. "I'm just ready to move on to something better."

McNamara, who opened the store after participating at a number of trade shows, said she originally opened B. Essential to offer something new to Powegians.

"We're a comfort store with a lot of one-of-a-kind pieces," she said. "At the time, I felt it was something Poway needed."

Though the store has created a steady and dedicated following, McNamara said she is pleased with her decision to close the doors and continue a career in property management while participating in the San Diego Derby Dolls.

"It's bittersweet," she said. "But now I know I can own a business."

The Poway High grad said others have already expressed interest in taking on a lease on the space in Old Poway Village—which is owned by her father, Kevin McNamara—but wouldn't comment as to which businesses.

McNamara plans to officially close B. Essential next month.
