Poway Emergency Communications Drill and Workshop Scheduled

September is National Preparedness Month

A workshop on emergency communications has been set for 7 pm Thursday, Sept. 8, in Poway City Council Chambers on Civic Center Drive. Presented by the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps (PNEC), it will focus on obtaining life saving information during any emergency and how to best share it with neighbors. Learn who your neighborhood emergency coordinator is in Poway, as well as your neighborhood ham radio operator. Meet them, get to know each other and decide together how to communicate during an emergency. Radio communication via ham radio and FRS walkie talkie type radios will be addressed.

Also at the workshop, learn about and prepare to take part in a Poway city-wide "Emergency Communications Drill" on September 17th. This is critically important, according to PNEC President Terri Sorensen. "If we don’t try our system we won’t know what works and what doesn’t till it is too late. Be a part of the solution, so we can fix the problems," she asked.

September is National Preparedness Month, established in 2004 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security. There are weekly themes throughout the month. For more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/PowayNeighborho... or http://powaynec.com.
