Poway Emergency Preparedness Meeting to Focus on Pets
Animal Rescue Reserve to Present Program on Disaster Resources for Pet Owners

A representative from the Animal Rescue Reserve (ARR) will give a presentation on disaster planning for pets at 7 pm Thursday, April 7, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, southeast corner of Twin Peaks and Espola Road.
Organized by the Poway Neighborhood Emergency Corps (PNEC), the forum will feature Renay Peters, a local veterinary technician and volunteer for ARR. She will cover disaster planning for pets, how to put together a disaster kit for pets and provide animal disaster resources that are available during an emergency.
When disaster strikes, people are often unable to transport their horses, other livestock, and even household pets to safety. This is why the San Diego Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals organized the ARR in 1970, now a part of the official County Disaster Team. Specially trained to save and care for animals threatened by wildfires, floods, and other life-threatening situations, these unique volunteers are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
