Rain Dampens San Diego County, Causing Multiple Accidents

A low pressure system moving down the California coastΒ brought rain to San Diego County Thursday, contributing to scores of trafficΒ accidents.
There were 121 crashes reported on local highways and freeways as of 8Β a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol, which receives an average ofΒ 50-75 crash reports in a full 24-hour period when the roads are not wet.
A total of 76 of this morning's crashes occurred between 6 and 8 a.m., the CHP said.
Heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms were expected Friday andΒ Saturday, along with moderate to locally strong northeast winds along mountainΒ ridge tops and through and below passes and canyons, according to the NationalΒ Weather Service. The unsettled weather was expected to drop the snow level toΒ 5,000 feet Friday night.
Temperatures Thursday were expected to be around 65 degrees in coastalΒ areas, 62 to 67 in the western valleys, 56 to 61 near the foothills, 50 to 56Β in the mountains and 68 to 73 in the deserts.
