RB Chorale 2017 Music Scholarship Winners Announced
Sophia Liu Su and Katherine Anne Thorvick win top scholarship awards at the Annual RB Chorale Broadway Stage Performance
The RB Chorale awarded scholarships last week to six young promising musicians who will be attending college in the fall. Audiences at the June 9 and 10 performances of Pat Bean and RB Chorale's “Best of Broadway, Yesterday & Today” voted on scholarships awarded to the contestants after their performances during the show.
Receiving $3,500 each in scholarship funds were Sophia Liu Su and Katherine Anne Thorvick. Sophia, a graduate from Scripps Ranch High School, is heading to UCLA in the fall to major in piano performance. She delighted the packed Poway Center for the Performing Arts with a magical piano performance. Katherine, graduating from Poway High School, sang like a seasoned Broadway performer and was loudly celebrated by the audience. She will pursue her musical education at New York University.
Receiving $2,500 each in scholarship funds were Derrick (DJ) Martin, Poway High (tenor saxophone) and Garrett Caelan Weir, Mt. Carmel High (vocals). Receiving $1,500 each were Austin Thatcher, Poway High (vocals) and Proma Dewanjee, Carlsbad High (piano).
