SAN DIEGO, CA — A woman is in custody after she allegedly struck a 21-year-old motorcyclist with her minivan and fled the scene in Sabre Springs Friday night, police said. The crash was reported at 9:22 p.m. Friday in the 13400 block of Evening Creek Drive, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.
The motorcyclist was stopped at a red light on Evening Creek Drive facing eastbound in the No. 2 lane when the minivan made a right turn from Sabre Springs Parkway and struck him, Heims said. The driver, identified by police as Maria Ramirez, fled but was found a short time later, Heims said. The motorcyclist sustained a fractured tibia and fibula and was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Heims said. Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run, according to Heims.
