Smoke In Poway Likely 'Residual Smoke,' Fire Officials Say

Smoke is visible in Poway but there are currently no fires in the area, according to officials from the Poway Fire Department.

POWAY, CA – Smoke is visible in Poway but there are currently no fires in the area, according to officials from the Poway Fire Department.

"We've been getting a lot of calls about smoke," said Jillian Wright, the department's administrative assistant. "We think it's just residual smoke from the Otay fire."

Fire personnel have searched the area but have not found any fires, she said.

"Anytime someone calls into dispatch, they're going out and checking the area," she added, "but we haven't found any type of active fire here."

Cal Fire tweeted at 12:09 p.m. that there are currently no fires in San Diego. The smoke is coming from a fire in Mexico.

The National Weather Service also advised the public that smoke from a wildfire in Mexico would be moving into San Diego Thursday. No major impacts were expected.
