Suspect in Attempted Kidnapping Near Scripps Ranch School Sought by Police

A boy, 8, and a girl, 10, were walking home from Jerabek Elementary School when a man allegedly tried to abduct them, San Diego police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA: A 10-year-old girl and an 8 1/2-year-old boy ran away from a would-be kidnapper Tuesday in Scripps Ranch, police said.

The girl and boy were walking home from Jerabek Elementary School around 3:45 p.m. when a man who had been driving a Jeep got out and tried to grab the boy in the 10500 block of Scripps Trail, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.

The girl pushed him forward and the suspect then tried to grab her, Heims said.

The suspect was able to grab part of the backpack the girl was wearing, but his hand slipped off, Heims said.

The boy and girl then ran up a hill to get away. The suspect got back in his Jeep and fled, Heims said.

The suspect was described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with dirty blond hair and a "messed up" left eye.

He was wearing a white T-shirt, camouflage pants and red and white shoes.

The Jeep was red with black fenders and a black top.

Anyone with information about the attempted kidnapping was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
