The Poway Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary will
host its eleventh annual Tabletops and Tea “The Art of Tea” on Sunday, May 18,
2014, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Aragon Ballroom at the Rancho Bernardo
Inn. This year’s theme “The Art of Tea” will feature tables designed
around famous artists' masterpieces. In addition to the tabletops and luncheon,
there will be a silent auction, shopping boutique and live auction. Proceeds from the event will benefit
“The Healing Environment.”
Rady Children’s Hospital recognizes the environment in
which children receive care is critical to the healing process. The Healing Environment
advances the concept called healing arts and includes musicians, storytellers,
mimes, costume characters and a variety of art programs. The art program
provides supplies such as coloring books, crayons, stickers and other art
activities. The music program helps soothe and lift the spirits of patients and
their families. The healing artists entertain patients at their bedside or in
playrooms- distracting them from the routines of hospital life. The healing
arts staff are recognized by clinical staff for helping calm and ease the
stress of families in emergency department and other waiting rooms; and they
have the most profound experience in being with families during a child’s final
hours, or performing for children in coma’s who have recounted the songs and
stories told to them, after they “woke up.”
The cost associated with these programs are not
recognized by third party payers and, therefore, without philanthropy are at
risk of not being funded. Tabletops and Tea proceeds will fund as many healing
arts staff members as possible.
All 45 members of the Poway Unit of Rady Children’s Hospital
Auxiliary participate in putting together Tabletops and Tea. Chairs for this
year’s event are Missi Faucher and Caroline Lepore. The 2014 Chairperson of the
Poway Unit is Karen McPartland. Tickets and sponsorships are still available
for the event. Visit www.tabletopsandtea.org for more information or contact
