Voice Your Talent at Open Mic Nights

A cafe becomes a platform for young and upcoming musicians.

, formerly Tuscan Sunrise, has a new name, a new owner and now, a new tradition.

, owner of the café, is hosting every Friday at Café Lily. He says all are welcome, musicians and artists alike.

“I encourage other forms of arts—comedians, poets etc.—to attend and let us hear about their journey and story,” Sassani said in an e-mail to Patch. “Anybody can sign up, [there’s] no age limit.”

Sassani started the open mic night because of his own love for music. He’s a musician and wants to give a platform for musicians looking to give themselves a deserved name.

“Open mics are great for musicians, especially for young musicians, who are trying to grow their confidence and get their name out there,” Sassani said. “I heard a couple of days ago that Jewel used to go the open mics in San Diego and we see where she is now.”

Sassani also said that open mic nights are more than just about making it big. He says that it’s a matter of “connecting with other individuals, total strangers, who are there to listen to music—your music.”

Open mic nights at Café Lily are free and take place every Friday evening from 5-9 p.m. Those wishing to show off their talents can sign up at the door and will play in according order. Bring your instrument, whether it be a keyboard, a guitar or inspiring words on paper, and show us your talent. Café Lily will supply amps and a mic.
