Here's more information about the wind advisory and how long the National Weather Service says it will be in effect.

SAN DIEGO, CA: Gusty winds in parts of San Diego County will blow throughout the day Friday and overnight as a storm system moves through the region.

Peak wind gusts recorded Thursday night and this morning amid a wind advisory issued for the mountains and deserts were 61 miles per hour on Mount Laguna; 52 mph near Julian; 41 mph in Harrison Park; 39 mph on Palomar Mountain; 38 mph in Ocotillo Wells; and 35 mph in Ranchita and Borrego Springs, according to the National Weather Service.

West to southwest winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts that could reach 60 miles per hour in some areas will be possible until the wind advisory expires at 3 a.m. Saturday. Along the coast and in the valleys, light winds and a slight chance of rain is in the forecast through Sunday.

"A trough of low pressure will remain over the western states through much of next week maintaining stronger onshore flow across Southern California with cooler high temperatures, a deep marine layer with persistent coastal low clouds and periods of gusty west winds for the mountains and deserts," according to the weather service.

Forecasters warned that blowing dust may reduce visibility in some desert areas, and strong winds may make for locally hazardous travel.

"Stay alert for strong cross winds and areas of blowing dust and sand if you have travel plans in the deserts," according to the weather service.

The wind is expected to die down below advisory level Saturday, but breezy conditions will persist throughout the weekend. Forecasters predicted winds of about 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph along the coast and in the valleys, and 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph in the mountains and deserts as the weekend gets underway.
