RAMONA, CA – Authorities Thursday identified a 72-year-old motorist found dead in her crashed SUV in the private driveway of her Ramona-area home.
Nicole Rodriguez Estrada was headed west in the 400 block of Gem Lane, her home's private dirt road near the San Diego Country Estates, when her Nissan Murano veered off the roadway for unknown reasons some time before 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
"For reasons still under investigation, (Estrada) failed to slow as the roadway curved to the left," which caused the Murano to continue straight into a concrete-and-rock retaining wall, CHP public affairs Officer Travis Garrow said. The SUV sustained major front-end damage in the crash, and as a result, Estrada "suffered blunt force trauma and succumbed to her injuries on scene."

The Medical Examiner's Office said Estrada was pronounced dead at 2:43 p.m. but did not list the cause of manner of death. She apparently was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Garrow said. Alcohol or drug impairment was not believed to be a factor.
