Bicyclist Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In Ramona

A 53-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when her bicycle was struck from behind by a hit-and-run driver near a Ramona intersection.

RAMONA, CA — A 53-year-old woman suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning when her bicycle was struck from behind by a hit-and-run driver near a Ramona intersection.

The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of state Route 67 and Dye Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.

The woman was peddling northbound on the right shoulder of SR-67 when an SUV drifted to the right and struck the bicyclist, who was ejected from the two-wheeler onto the roadway, the officer said.

The driver continue northbound in the SUV, described as a 2019 Ford Edge with California license plate 8KPJ239, Garrow said, adding that the vehicle was last seen heading southbound on San Vicente Road near Hanson Lane.

The victim was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment of major injuries, Garrow said.

Anyone with information regarding the crash, the location of the vehicle or its driver was asked to call the El Cajon CHP office at 619-401-2000.
