Why Is Duncan D. Hunter Afraid?

A "leader" controlled by fear begets false bravado, a false pretense of competence, and a need to "appear" in control. Worse is his inability to take meaningful action. Result - paralysis.

Our U.S. House Representative, Duncan D. Hunter, son of 28-year congressman Duncan L. Hunter, is afraid to face both his constituents and the four candidates opposing him in the open primary set June 5th.Β  Why?Β  If Hunter himself was convinced he had done a fine job representing the people, had not succumbed to special-interest money, had acted like an adult in the gridlock which made the 112th Congress the least productive in U.S. history, he should proudly display his successes, and debate his opponents at every opportunity in order to show it. Β

Instead, he can be seen waiving in occasional parades, in photo-ops and remarks at job fairs he "sponsored" but in reality did nothing but add his name to, at "meet your representative" events sponsored by various chambers of commerce that are really fundraisers for Hunter (so you must pay in order to "meet" your employee).Β  In what he calls "town hall meetings" no voters are present!Β  They are done by telephone!Β  He's too busy?Β  So far this year he has worked 27 of the 141 days in Washington and has this week off.Β  Hunter knows he could be ripped to pieces if he had to answer unfiltered questions from the audience as I've done at 5 open town halls in two months.Β  Telephone town halls allow his handlers to filter calls, take calls from shills, and read out loud answers to obvious questions that have been writtenfor him in advance by his handlers as if he were speaking spontaneously.Β  If he himself is not in total control of the situation, and totally protected from hearing a "discouraging word," you will not see him, period.Β  A congressperson who does not hold regular in-person public town halls to answer to his employers does not deserve the office he holds.Β  Even Mr. Hunter knows in his heart this is true.Β  Hence, his paralyzing fear.

The less voters really know about him, the better.Β  In your mail-in ballots you will see that, unlike all his opponents, Mr. Hunter does not mention his age.Β  He is hoping that many voters still believe, after 4 years, they are voting for his dad!Β  He also says his occupation is "Marine."Β  The code of ethics says one's listed occupation must be something that occupies a significant part of his day (in the last calendar year).Β  Marine reservists are well aware of how much of his time he is spending on Marine duties.Β  This obvious pandering is a clear violation of the code. He could have simply listed "Incumbent," which is the most accurate description, but voters would then be more likely to vote against him.Β  It's better to try to deceive.Β  Mr Hunter is afraid to fully inform voters.

Hunter's opponents have principles, have ideas, have integrity and love their country.Β  None, however, have hundreds of thousands of dollars in large legal bribes (not to be confused with illegal bribes) from PACs, defense contractors and special-interest groups.Β  In his last debate, when Hunter was asked about a large earmark that benefited one of his own staff members, Hunter said "I, don't know what you're talking about."Β  The questioner reminded Hunter that the CEO of General Atomic, a defense contractor, was on Hunter's staff.Β  He then appeared to recall that it was true.

We pay Mr Hunter $176,000 per year.Β  He received more than 3 times that amount from PACs, defense contractors, insurance companies, utilities, corporations and wealthy individuals (many living outside our district) in the last election. Who does he work for?Β  What has he done for us, his real employers in the last two years?

Personally, I refuse to take any of that money.Β  Only contributions from individuals and none over $100, and I never will take them.Β  Why?Β  Because, like yours, my vote is not for sale.Β  If my performance by itself would not get me reelected, I don't deserve the job, and should be returned to the private sector. This is very important.Β  Until we get the money out of politics we will never have effective government. It's true in both parties. If you need big money to win, you're afraid, and when you're afraid you make bad, sometimes very harmful, decisions.

Voters in District 50:Β  Do not allow your vote to be bought by "Big Money," as many congressional votes are.Β  Consider Hunter's opponents' biographies, platforms, and each's commitment to a better future - for liberty, freedom, justice and security for all the people.Β  Only then cast your vote.
