Bulldogs Lineman Kwayde Miller Commits to SDSU

The 6-8, 290-pound offensive tackle decides to stay near home, turning down numerous other scholarship offers.

A parade of major-college recruiters walked through the football offices at Ramona High School over the past six months. However, in the end, Bulldogs senior offensive lineman Kwayde Miller declared his intentions to stay at home and play collegiately at San Diego State.

Miller, a 6-foot-8, 290-pound tackle, informed Aztecs coaches of his decision Wednesday, foresaking offers from schools in the Pac 12 and Big 10 conferences.

"I thought about it for a long time, talking to my family and the coaches," said the soft-spoken Miller, who spurned offers from Purdue, Wisconsin, Oregon and Oregon State, among others. "But it finally came down to academics."

Miller plans to major in criminal justice at SDSU. "(It's) a well-respected program," added Miller. "I'm very comfortable with my choice."

Miller, a converted tight end, is listed among the top 100 offensive linemen in the country by several scouting services. In fact, the Aztecs offered him a scholarship as a tackle before he switched positions in the Ramona lineup.

"He's the biggest recruit that this school has ever seen," Bulldogs coach Damon Baldwin said over the summer. "This school has never seen the amount of coaches who came through here in May. And it was all because of him."

Miller carries a 3.35 grade point average. He is unsure whether SDSU will allow him to play basketball this winter for the Bulldogs.
