Collier Park's New Soccer Arena Will Be Officially Opened Friday

The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony for Ramona's new lighted soccer arena at Collier Park on Friday.

County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, the County Parks and Recreation Department and the Ramona Boys & Girls Club will host the event, which is due to begin at 10 a.m.

The open-air walled arena has spectator bleachers and a regulation-size artificial turf field. The field and low-energy lighting are designed to conserve resources. The facility is accessible for people with disabilities, and its wall has a transparent section to give wheelchair users a ground level view of the action.

The arena was funded with a $250,000 donation from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego and $372,000 in County Board of Supervisors District 2 Neighborhood Reinvestment funds.

Brian Albright, director of San Diego County Parks and Recreation, and Danny Sherlock, Ramona Boys & Girls Club, will attend the ribbon cutting.

Collier Park is a county operated 8-acre community park with playgrounds and picnic tables at 626 E. St.
