Heat-related illnesses are likely due to a combination of hot temperatures and high humidity. People working or spending time outdoors, the elderly, children, and people not used to excessive heat will be most susceptible to heat-related illnesses, according to the National Weather Service.
Weather officials advised residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning, stay out of the sun and check in on relatives and neighbors. Officials also reminded residents to never leave kids or pets unattended in cars.
