Ken Serfass Was on the History Channel Tuesday

The Ramona resident plays Ulysses S. Grant in a documentary. Also, Ramona Old Time Revue will entertain Wednesday at Ramona Senior Center. And a scholarship recipient earns his degree.

The History Channel featured Ramona's as Gen. Ulysses S. Grant in the documentary Lee & Grant on Tuesday night.

Also in local news, a group of talented folks has been in rehearsals for the past few weeks to present their own version of Palm Springs Follies. While the Follies cater to older performers, local organizer Hal Gansert knows talent comes in many ages and welcomes one and all to sign on with his group.

Their first official gig is Wednesday, July 1, at where they will be performing at 11:30 a.m. for the lunchtime crowd. Going by the name of Ramona Old Time Revue, Gansert said they will be singing tunes from Fiddler on the Roof, as well as several patriotic songs in celebration of Independence Day.

Joining Gansert so far are Joan Renauld, Erica Bellisario, Gina Seashore and Ken Ingalls, with Janet Will accompanying them on the piano.

graduate Matthew Lane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music on May 21 from San Diego State University.

Matthew is the first recipient of Ramona Food & Clothes Closet’s Community Spirit Scholarship to earn his college degree. He was awarded the $18,000, four-year scholarship in June 2007. He will be going on to North Texas State University in Denton, TX, to continue his studies for a master’s degree in music.

Matthew is the son of Bruce and Marcella Lane of Ramona, who hosted a celebration dinner following the SDSU graduation ceremony. Scholarship chairman Jeff Funk, and his wife, Alice, attended on behalf of Ramona Food & Clothes Closet.
