The local fair kicked things off Thursday evening.

The Ramona Country Fair opened Thursday, offering summer evening fun for the families of the town.

The small crowd in the early hours of opening night enjoyed carnival games, thrilling rides and lots of kettle corn.

The Paratrooper seemed to be the most popular ride with the teens while the kiddos enjoyed the tamer rides, like the merry-go-round and the bumblebee flyers.

Parents and kids alike tried their luck at winning a giant stuffed animal with games like glass pitch, basketball toss, water racing, bean bag toss, rope ladders and the ever-simple pick-a-duck.

The fair continues tonight and runs through Sunday evening, with the junior fair and all its animals making their 2012 debut Saturday morning. You can find the .

Admission is free, but event parking is $5. Tickets for games and rides can be bought at the fair. Have fun!

And a first-timer tip: wear closed-toed sneakers with socks! The tall grass on the grounds makes for itchy ankles.
