Music lovers have a reason to celebrate! Salerno Winery – a cultural destination located in the hills of Ramona Valley – has announced its fall opera schedule, featuring classical pieces performed by celebrated singers.
Every Saturday and Sunday, from 2-5 p.m., guests can enjoy lilting presentations of Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Beethoven and others brilliantly sung by Jorge D’Soria and Salvador Padilla. D’soria – a gifted tenor who performed for seven years with the San Diego Opera – studied under Luciano Pavarotti and sings in six languages. Formerly the director of the Tijuana Choir, he has executed an impressive 35 operas in cities including Los Angeles, Tucson, Mexico City and Middleton.

Chosen for San Francisco’s distinguished Merola Opera Program, Padilla is an acclaimed baritone who has performed with the Western Opera Theatre, the Ambassadors of Opera and the Broadway World Tour in cities around the world. He’s won numerous awards for his vocal talent, including being named the national winner in Chicago’s Bel Canto Foundation’s opera competition.
Visitors can also dine on authentic Italian-style pizza hot out of the oven and co-proprietor Herman Salerno’s famous, fresh-baked bread, while sipping the vineyard’s seasonally harvested, award-winning wines, including Elegante – a double gold-medal and sweepstakes winner – and Lagrein – “silk in a glass.” Other menu choices include salami and cheese trays.
Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the vineyard is owned by Salerno, a proclaimed opera singer from Italy, his wife Rose, and new co-proprietor and family friend Jaime Chaljon, who recently began renovations to enhance the winery. As a part of the partnership, Chaljon, an avid art collector who has amassed a multimillion dollar collection over 25 years, has also added some of his favorite pieces to the vineyard’s garden. Now, visitors can view more than 30 works from more than 20 artists, including the largest grouping of pieces from Jorge and Javier Marín – celebrated Mexican brothers and sculptures – as well as sculptures from Heriberto Mendez, Abel Ramirez, Rafael Levi and many more.
“We’re thrilled to share all of the exciting developments at the vineyard with our guests,” said Salerno. “Between the renovations, sculpture additions, opera performances and cuisine, there’s plenty for visitors to discover.”
