Seniors Get Moment In the Spotlight on Ramona High's Star Wall
While seniors exercise bragging rights, younger students find inspiration.
Seniors at Ramona High School have been given a chance to shine thanks to the Star Wall in the school's College and Career Center, which showcases students' successes by including their name and college they will be attending in the fall.
The wall was created two years ago as a way to give recognition to students for college acceptance, enrolling in trade school or joining the military, according to the center's adviser, Lisa Filice.
"The purpose of the wall was a visual identifier of accomplishment," Filice said. "Some students needed to see where other students were going."

Filice said she wants students to think of the possibilities and imagine what they're capable of accomplishing, and for younger students to strive to be on the wall their senior year.
The most prestigious schools on the wall this year include Cornell and Columbia Universities in New York, University of Los Angeles and UC Berkley. Fresno State and Smith Honors College also made it up this year. Filice said more students were accepted to impressive schools, but were forced to forfeit their acceptance due to financial reasons.

But students don't have to get into Harvard to shine like a star.
"It was really important to me that the community college and trade school students were recognized," said Filice. "I always say, 'It doesn't matter where you start, but where you finish.'"
Any senior going on to complete their education or join the armed forces is eligible to put their name on the Star Wall. Students can go into the center to meet with Filice and fill out their star.
"The wall is really for the students," Filice said. "The students love it. They take pride in it every year."
