'Steer Clear of the 67': Roadway to Close in Lakeside

Detour signs will be posted during the closure this weekend.

LAKESIDE, CA: Drivers in East County are being asked to "Steer Clear of 67" this weekend, when a segment of the roadway will be closed for construction.

From 10 p.m. on Friday, April 15 until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 18, southbound State Route 67 will be closed in Lakeside from Mapleview Street to Riverford Road.

"Motorists can expect significant delays of an hour or more and are urged to ‘Steer Clear of 67’ and avoid the area," officials with the County of San Diego and Caltrans said in a news release.

While the 55-hour closure is under way, construction crews will place a large box culvert under the 67 — requiring excavation of the roadway to remove underground boulders obstructing construction of the County of San Diego’s Woodside Avenue Flood Control Project.

The southbound on-ramps from Mapleview and Winter Gardens Boulevard to the 67 will be unaccessible to through traffic during the closure. The southbound on-ramp at Riverford Road will remain open, though.

Traffic will be detoured off of the southbound 67 at Lakeside Avenue. Heading west, traffic will turn right to continue along Lakeside and onto Riverside Drive, turn left onto Riverford Road, to the southbound Riverford entrance ramp to the 67.

Detour signs will be posted and during peak hours, personnel will direct traffic, officials said.

Caltrans will post information pertinent to the closure on its Twitter page, @SDCaltrans, using the hashtag #steerclear67.
