http://www.westwoodelementary.org/ Westwood Elementary School got a face lift a few years back, and looks fantastic! Even the mascot Road Runner, who had gotten a bit weather-worn and was feeding some termite families. However, when alumni and their families walk through the gates, they know instinctively where to go for children’s classroom, the playground where kids line up and play games like tetherball, the track, and play equipment beyond. ESS, Extended Student Services, still provides care for children before and after the regular school day. It was a life saver for me when I was a single working mother. Best of all, our kids got much, if not all their homework done before they went out to play on the school yard. At Westwood Elementary, interested, caring parents still make PTA and Fundraising events a huge success, including through the Westwood Foundation. I still have gifts my daughter made while a student there, a block of wood painted Mom in multi color, and items she bought for me from the Holiday Carnival, such as bread dough tree ornaments. One of my favorites was the annual Halloween Carnival, where the multi-purpose room was changed into a Scary House, and kids plunged their hands in to creepy bowls of cold macaroni, and such.
