DeMaio Pension Reform Town Hall Series Comes to RB

The Saturday town hall is the first of 16 sessions.

Councilman Carl DeMaio, who is running for mayor, will hold the first in a series of town halls about pension reform at the Rancho Bernardo Inn on Saturday.

The 10 a.m. session in the inn's ballroom is the first of 16 stops in 100 days for DeMaio's Pension Reform Town Hall Series.

“We’re up against the unlimited resources of the government unions to wage their misinformation campaign," DeMaio said in a statement. "These Town Halls will keep the public informed and involved in order to pass Comprehensive Pension Reform in June.”

DeMaio and Mayor Jerry Sanders have been pushing a pension reform measure, slated for the June ballot, which would shift new employees except police officers into 401(k)-style plans instead of pensions in an effort to cut costs.

The effort has been met with much resistance by unions, but received enough signatures to be eligible for the June ballot.
