Down to the Details for Welcome Sign
The welcome sign committee is hammering out the final few details of a new proposed design.

A new design proposal for Rancho Bernardo's welcome sign appears to be within reach, though committee members got hung up on several details of the concept at what some thought would be a finalizing meeting this week.
Members of the Welcome Sign Review Group on Monday considered seven different designs created by RB Planning Board member John Woods, who said he spent about three hours crafting each using three different computer programs. No one design satisfied the group, though certain elements from multiple options are to be combined in a new, tweaked version at an upcoming meeting.
Agreed upon details:

- Prominent RB logo in center portion.
- "Rancho Bernardo" spelled out along the bottom of the center portion.
- Stucco for the center portion.
- Two columns on the sides made of red stone.
Undecided details:
- Stone type and shade of red.
- Whether the columns will be tapered.
- If tapered, how tapered the columns will be.
- If the top of the center portion will be curved or flat.
- Whether or not to frame the center stucco portion on the top and/or bottom with stone or another material.
Once the sign committee—composed of three members each from the RB Community Council and RB Planning Board—agrees on a concept, it will be sent to both groups for final approval before going to the city for completion. The committee's goal is to have a design ready for the two groups' March meetings.

The community has been without a welcome sign for more than two years after a motorist destroyed the previous one.
