DUI Arrests Up Slightly Over Labor Day Weekend
State and local highway officials reported more DUI arrests during the three-day weekend than during the same period last year.

State and local California Highway Patrol officers arrested slightly more people on suspicion of drunken driving over the Labor Day weekend than last year, according to a Tuesday report.
Law enforcement reported no fatalities on San Diego County highways and unincorporated roads between 6:01 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday. Statewide, there were 29 deaths reported, up from 21 last year. Of those killed in the state, 18 were not wearing seat belts.
None were killed in San Diego County last year.

Over the weekend, local CHP officers arrested 91 drivers on suspicion of DUI, up just a bit from the 88 arrested in 2010. Across the state, 1,531 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI, 10 more than last year.
The number of DUI arrests only includes those made by CHP officers, while the fatality figures include reports from all law enforcement agencies.
