Firefighters Put Out 3-Acre Brush Fire on West Bernardo Drive

Firefighters had the brush fire out within an hour, officials say.

Firefighters knocked down a three-acre brush fire on West Bernardo Drive near Interstate 15 in Rancho Bernardo in about an hour early Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

No structures were ever threatened and no one was injured, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Spokesman Maurice Luque said.

Calls about the fire, on the 18400 block of West Bernardo Drive, started coming in around 1:30 p.m. Fifteen engines with 45 firefighters from San Diego, Escondido and Poway responded, putting the fire out just before 2:30 p.m., officials said.

Copters 1 and 2 also responded, performing eight water drops, Luque said.

A cause for the fire has not yet been determined.
