Kersey Scores Endorsement from Mayor Sanders
Mark Kersey, a Rancho Bernardo resident, is running for the District 5 seat on the San Diego City Council.
Rancho Bernardo resident and businessman Mark Kersey, who is running for the San Diego City Council, announced Thursday that he had received the endorsement of Mayor Jerry Sanders.
“As I look to the future of our city, it is important to me that I support candidates who I trust to move the ball forward on the reforms that San Diego desperately needs,” Sanders said in a statement from the Kersey campaign. “Mark’s steadfast support of Comprehensive Pension Reform and other critical reforms like managed competition is why he is my choice for district 5 councilmember.”
Kersey looks to fill the seat of San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio, also an RB resident, who worked with Sanders on the pension reform measure slated to hit the ballot in June. DeMaio is running for mayor and has said he will vacate his seat.

Kersey, in a statement, said he was "deeply honored" to have the mayor's support.
“The Mayor has done a tremendous job leading our city and fighting for reform —often in the face of significant opposition. I look forward to working on the council to implement the critical reforms that Mayor Sanders supports so that we can finally restore core neighborhood services to the levels that taxpayers deserve, he said.
