Condoleezza Rice Speaking in Rancho Bernardo

The former Secretary of State is the keynote speaker at a fundraiser to help families find homes.

The campaign to fight homelessness in North County is getting a big hand from a big name this weekend—former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Rice, who served under President George W. Bush, will be the featured speaker at a fundraiser gala for Solutions for Change at the on Saturday.

The last day to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Oct. 5 at solutionsforchange.org/events. Individual tickets are $250 and tables of 10 are $2,500.

The event—"An Evening to Remember ... with Condoleezza Rice"—begins with a reception at 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and Rice's speech at 7:45 p.m. The night also includes silent and live auctions, and a performance by Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk.

Solutions for Change is a Vista-based nonprofit started in 1999 that aims to reduce homelessness in north San Diego County. The "Evening to Remember" is part of the organization's Finding Our Way Home initiative to get 200 families and their 400 children out of homelessness within three years.

“A solution to family homelessness in North County is within our reach,” Chris Megison, founder of Solutions for Change, said in a statement.

“Having Dr. Rice keynote our most important fundraiser is going to expand awareness about Solutions for Change, helping us to change attitudes and rebuild lives for more families than ever before."
