More Car Windows Smashed in RB

The latest string reportedly happened overnight Monday along Rancho Bernardo Road.

It appears vandals are still on the loose in Rancho Bernardo with new reports of smashed car windows coming Tuesday, just weeks after a number of cars were vandalized in Seven Oaks.

At least eight cars along Rancho Bernardo Road between Bernardo Oaks Drive and Bernardo Center Drive had their windows smashed late Monday or early Tuesday, according to a 10News report.

Reached late Tuesday, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said the department's Northeastern Division, which includes RB, was investigating the incidents, but he had no further information.

These latest acts come a little more than two weeks after had their windows smashed overnight. In that May 20-21 spree, one vehicle also was covered with postal stickers bearing vulgar sayings and a yellow painting of a penis.

Local investigators could not immediately be reached to determine whether any suspects have been identified.

The stretch of Rancho Bernardo Road with window smashings Tuesday was also recently tarnished with similar yellow paintings of male genitalia on traffic signs.

Officer Susan Steffen, in response to the Seven Oaks incidents, said prankster teens are typically behind such acts.

"It's just unfortunate that kids do this and they go around and vandalize and they think it's funny," Steffen said at the time.

The officer also recommended that, in the case of graffiti, residents wait to wash or remove the displays until police have had the chance to take pictures and collect other evidence, such as fingerprints.

For information about how to report non-emergencies online, see here. If there may be evidence to collect, residents should indicate as much and they will be prompted to call the department so an officer can come and take the report in-person, Steffen said.

The non-emergency reporting line for the 858 area code is: 858-484-3154.
