Police Arrest 17 in DUI Crackdown

A DUI checkpoint over the weekend brought in 17 suspected drunken drivers.

San Diego police officers arrested 17 suspected drunken drivers at a checkpoint held in Mission Bay Park that wrapped up early Sunday, police said.

Nearly 900 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on Ingraham Street between 10:20 p.m. Saturday to 2:20 a.m., according to Officer Mark McCullough.

Officers arrested 17 suspected drunken drivers and conducted 18 vehicle impounds at or near the checkpoint, McCullough said.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, McCullough said.
