PQ Council Recap: Robbery & Graffiti
A local police lieutenant stopped by to talk about the recent armed robbery at Circle K and graffiti problems throughout the community.

The Rancho Peñasquitos Town Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday.
Some of the highlights:
- Graffiti, Robbery and Car Theft: A high school student was recently arrested after a resident spotted him spraying graffiti, took a picture of his car, and contacted police, San Diego Police Lt. Brian Blagg said. "You're our eyes and ears," Blagg said. "What you see you need to tell us about. We can't be everywhere." Graffiti has been a recurring problem in Rancho Peñasquitos and neighboring Rancho Bernardo. Both areas have issues with vehicle break-ins. Blagg said people often leave their GPS devices in-view inside the car, an easy snag for burglars. People shouldn't leave anything of value in the car, he said.
- Circle K Robberies: The Circle K at 9370 Paseo Montalban was robbed, apparently by the same skeleton mask-wearing suspect, on both Wednesday and Thursday. Blagg said police have an idea of who it was but cannot say at this time as the investigation continues. (Story: )
- Relay for Life: The Mira Mesa/Rancho Peñasquitos chapter of the American Cancer Society's annual fundraiser is gearing up for its May 19 relay. Those interested in participating or donating can see the group's website for more information. A pre-relay fashion show and dance is planned for April 15 at the DoubleTree Hotel on Peñasquitos Drive.
- New Treasurer: PQ Councilman Alan Gin volunteered and was voted to be the group's treasurer, filling the office . Gin is a University of San Diego economics professor who is well-known for a monthly regional economic report.
- Mayoral Candidate Forum: A forum for the four main mayoral candidates set for April 12 is on the rocks after the venue changed and District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis backed out, PQ Councilwoman Michelle O'Connor-Ratliff said. San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio has not responded to multiple requests to participate, she said. Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher and Rep. Bob Filner were initially confirmed but have not been re-confirmed now that the event has moved from the DoubleTree in PQ to the Ed Brown Senior Center in Rancho Bernardo, she said.
