According to CAL-FIRE, carbon monoxide—produced when fuels like gas, oil, kerosene, wood and charcoal are burned— can't be smelled or seen, but can kill people at high levels.
Malfunctioning or incorrectly used appliances and heaters can cause indoor carbon monoxide levels to rise, putting your family in danger of sickness and even death. By now, since the Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act went into effect on July 1, each home should have carbon monoxide detectors.
