PUSD Releases Statement on RB High Baseball Coach Firing

Rancho Bernardo High School baseball coach Sam Blalock was fired on Wednesday, though district officials have not yet given a specific reason.

The Poway Unified School District on Saturday released a statement about the Wednesday firing of Rancho Bernardo High School baseball coach Sam Blalock:

Rancho Bernardo High School Principal Paul Robinson notified Rancho Bernardo High School Baseball Coach Sam Blalock on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, that he would not be brought back as coach for the 2012 season. Blalock retired as a Poway Unified School District teacher in June of 2007, but since that time he has served as the varsity coach in a “walk on” capacity.

Paul Robinson stated, “I have nothing but respect for Sam and the teams he has coached over his many years in PUSD. The timing of this was not the best.”

PUSD Superintendent John Collins said, “Coach Blalock has had a winning program over the years, and winning is one of the measures of success we look for in our athletic programs. With Coach Blalock out of town until next week, it will be a few days before I can sit down with the people most involved and affected. I look forward to an open dialog, to better understand exactly what transpired on Wednesday, to look at potential options, and to reach a satisfactory resolution. As soon as these discussions have concluded, we will be able to share greater detail that will address the inaccurate information circulating in the community. I appreciate everyone's patience in this matter."
