RB Meets Torrey Pines for Girls Lacrosse Championship

Rancho Bernardo has a 20-game win streak on the line as it shoots for its first title; Poway tops RB, Ramona wins opener in softball playoffs.

The Rancho Bernardo High girls lacrosse team shoots for its first San Diego Section championship Saturday when the Broncos face Torrey Pines in a 1 p.m. game at Westview High for the Division I crown.

Rancho Bernardo (21-1) has reeled off 20 straight wins after losing 14-8 to Coronado on March 15  in the season's second game. Coronado (20-1), which also handed Torrey Pines (21-3) one of its losses, meets Cathedral Catholic (12-8) for the Division II title at 11 a.m. at Westview.

RB has scored 298 goals while giving up just 133. Senior Rachel Bokmeyer (60 goals) and sophomore Blaiz Major (56) have provided much of the offense. Junior Hannah Sieger has been strong in the nets, allowing opponents and average of just six goals a game.

Poway Tops RB in Division I Softball Playoffs

Alayna Brenman improved her record to 15-2 and Hayley Steele had a pair of hits and an RBI as Poway High downed Rancho Bernardo 6-2 Friday in the Division I softball playoffs.

Poway (23-6) moves to the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will host Eastlake at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Broncos (14-13-1) drop to the loser's bracket, where they face Mira Mesa on the road at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Ramona Softball Team Wins Opener in Division III

The Ramona High softball team erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth and held on for a 3-2 victory over El Capitan in Division III. K.K. Melgoza drove home two of the Bulldog runs and Julie Ward went the distance for the win.

Ramona (15-14) visits University City on Saturday for a 1 p.m. winner's bracket game.
