“When he cramped, I knew that it would be a little bit easier for me, but I’d still have to do my best to win," said Pham, who also felt some tightness as the match went on. "I just wanted to make him move, make him earn the points.”
For Wood, it was a repeat win in the doubles. He and partner Daniel Faierman were the champs last spring.

“It was really great to win today, especially after graduating earlier in the day," said Wood. “We both had better serves than them, and we played smarter. They are both good singles players, but they just weren’t playing the best doubles.”
Jacobs agreed. “I’d say they were both better singles players," he said. "If we had played more rallies on the baseline it would have been a closer match, but because we're such a good doubles team, we took them down.”
Chiu, a sophomre with a freshman partner in Chen, gave credit to Wood and Jacobs. “Their serves were good," he said. “Our returns weren’t quite up to their serves’ level.”
