San Diego Police Arrest 11 in DUI Patrol

One driver was also accused of hit and run.

San Diego police arrested 11 people during a recent DUI checkpoint/saturation patrol, including one driver accused of evading officers and hit and run.

The checkpoint was held Friday, May 13 on 4000 Sports Arena Blvd. and netted one arrest on suspicion of DUI. Seven other motorists were detained for sobriety evaluations. More than 300 vehicles were screened, according to a San Diego Police Department release.

Police also conducted saturation patrols in Ocean and Pacific beaches, arresting 10 people on suspicion of DUI. One of those drivers also was accused of felony evading a peace officer and hit and run.

The department routinely conducts DUI checkpoints throughout the city, funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, to raise awareness about the hazards of drunken driving.
