Torrey Pines Claims Girls Lacrosse Title Over RB

The Falcons put the pressure on early and score an 18-5 victory in the Division I title game.

The Rancho Bernardo High girls lacrosse team saw its 20-game win streak come to an end as the Broncos ran into a buzzsaw in Torrey Pines in the Division I championship game Saturday at Westview High.

The top-seeded Falcons (22-3) won a second straight title with an 18-5 victory behind six goals from Duke-bound Katie Trees, who scored four straight as the Falcons expanded a 5-1 lead to 10-1 in the closing minutes of the first half. Anna Knowles added five scores.

The Broncos (21-2) were led by senior captain Allison Proehl, who scored four of the team's five goals.

“At halftime we knew we needed to turn the page and start the second half as a brand new game," said RB coach Laura Fortney. “We needed to concentrate on the draws for possession, one thing we were struggling with. And to not give up, because anything’s possible.

“I am happy with their performance. They gave one hundred percent of their heart, body and mind.”

Fortney noted that it was a physical game.

“We were a little frustrated with the lack of calls, but we did out best to control the controllable," she said.

“We won twenty games in a row, and we haven’t loss since March. Today was a day to reflect on the rest of our season and be proud of that.”
