Bohaboy Leads Local Players Named to ESPN Rise National Team

Frannie Coxe and Torey Markowitz are also named to the Winter All-American team with Lauren Bohaboy.

Lauren Bohaboy has scored once more. The talented Santa Margarita Catholic senior has been named by ESPN Rise to its Winter All-America First team for athletes who play soccer in the winter.

There were 12 selections to the first team, including three local players. In addition to Bohaboy are Torey Markowitz of Tesoro High, and Frannie Coxe of San Clemente. Bohaboy, a forward, is going to Notre Dame. Defender Markowitz is going to UCLA and midfielder Coxe to Yale.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Luke of Corona del Mar High was a second-team selection.

According to ESPN Rise: "Bohaboy is one of the nation’s most feared finishers. She tallied a staggering 51 goals and 10 assists in the California Southern Section, which features many of the nation’s top high school programs. Her 51 goals shattered her previous school-record 28, which she set last season. Bohaboy is a three time ESPN RISE All-American and was also named the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Player of the Year, NSCAA California Player of the Year and Gatorade California Player of the Year."

Here's what ESPN Rise had to say about Coxe: "Coxe shared the Orange County Player of the Year honors with Lauren Bohaboy, another ESPN RISE first-team All-America selection. Coxe’s play helped San Clemente to a 19-win season and a POWERADE FAB 50 No. 14 finish. The senior playmaker, who's headed to Yale, had 14 goals and 16 assists as San Clemente won a fourth straight South Coast League title."

Here's what ESPN rise had to say about Markowitz: "Markowitz’s play helped Tesoro to 13 shutouts and a Southern Section quarterfinal appearance. The UCLA signee was named to the All-Sea View League first team as well as the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 first team."

Half of the 12 first-team selections came from the Southern Section, including Ally Courtnall of Westlake Village Oaks Christian, junior Katie Johnson of La Canada Flintridge-Sacred Heart, and Haley Rosen of Palos Verdes. Two others were from Texas, two from Florida, one from Hawaii and one from Northern California.

The ESPN RISE Winter All-America team is compiled using a combination of players’ high school performance, as well as coaching and media recommendations, and recruiting details. These players hail from winter-playing high school soccer programs.
